This weekend I spent over two full days at the 5th Startup Weekend Boulder. The first Startup Weekend was held in Boulder but is now in over 100 cities across the world. In case you haven’t heard of it, “Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets – primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people – to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.”
Of course those 54 hours include sleeping (which some groups got more of than others, I enjoyed following #swboulder and seeing tweets at 1am) and my driving to and from Denver.
And after it was all over, my team – SimClip – was chosen by a panel of judges as the first place team! Although it was great to be selected as the winning team, as the organizers reminded us throughout the weekend – the purpose of the event was not as a competition but the connections, networking, and experience of the weekend. I would definitely agree that the weekend was well worth it even if we hadn’t of won.
